Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol employed to encode the data exchanged between a server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to secure the information that customers submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an online store, and so forth. Any information they enter in any box on the site will be submitted securely to the server, so their login or payment information will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. Typically, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be installed, which means the overall cost for your web presence will be higher. While this might not be a problem for a larger business, it might matter for a non-profit organization or a small online store that does not generate big earnings if additional money should be spent. That's the main reason why we've taken advantage of an extension called Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to set up an SSL certificate.
Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting
You'll be able to use this option with all our shared hosting packages and with any SSL certificate issued from any dealer. When you decide to work with an SSL from our company, everything shall be set up automatically and you won't need to do anything after you buy and approve the certificate. The SSL order wizard will permit you to select a shared IP address to be used and the SSL to be set up by our system, so using this feature requires only two additional mouse clicks after you fill the needed info for the certificate. The adequate operation of the SSL won't be affected in any way and any information that visitors submit on your website shall be encrypted and protected in the same exact way. The one big difference from working with a dedicated address is that http:// won't open your Internet site, but it is unlikely that anybody will ever attempt to access it in this way instead of typing your domain name within the web browser URL bar.
Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Servers
The shared IP option is available with all Linux semi-dedicated servers and the setup takes merely a couple of mouse clicks within the hosting CP regardless if you purchase an SSL from our company or via a third-party supplier. There shall not be any difference in the way the certificate functions or encodes the info your visitors submit, so your site shall be protected without having to spend any additional cash for a dedicated IP address. The one thing which will be different is that https://the-shared-IP won't open your site, unlike https://the-dedicated-IP, but it is extremely unlikely that anybody shall ever try to access your site in this way as opposed to inputting your domain name. Additionally we offer an auto-configuration option for the SSLs ordered via our company and if you select it and you opt to use a shared IP address rather than a dedicated one, our system will set everything up as soon as the SSL is approved and issued without the need for any action on your end.
